You don’t want people to access your website when it’s not fully customized or should I say ‘ready’, remember that first impression matters.

In this article, I’ll show you the steps you need to take in order to put your WordPress Website into Maintenance Mode in 2022.

We’ll be styling up things a bit now, let’s say your website already has fans and you want to change some certain elements or stuff, you can set your site to maintenance mode and also add a countdown timer to launch.. epic, isn’t it?

First Step

The First Step you need to take is to install and activate a maintenance plugin that’ll assist us through the process.

The name of the Plugin is CMP, open your WordPress dashboard, and head over to the new plugin page, install and activate the plugin.

Second Step

Since we’ve installed and activated the CMP plugin, the next step is to create a maintenance page.

To create a maintenance page, go to CMP Settings on the left panel, then switch the CMP Status to enabled.

Three options will appear below immediately, it enables you to choose whether to set your whole site to maintenance mode or just your homepage.

Choose the option you want and then on the second heading, select maintenance mode, then scroll down and select the theme you want to use.

Click on activate, and the maintenance page should be successfully created, note that it won’t be available to logged in users. So you might wanna use incognito mode or another device and see how your site looks.

Third Step

Your WordPress Website has already been set to maintenance mode, this third step is all about how you can customize the maintenance page.

On the CMP Settings Page, click on the Content Tab and you can now edit and customize your site’s maintenance page to your liking.

Conclusion

I hope you found this article on how to put WordPress Website in Maintenance Mode insightful and helpful.

Though there are a couple of plugins that can help you do this, I love the CMP Plugin because of the countdown timer and the Email list option, which enables you to notify users who visited your maintenance page when your content is live.
