RPM is a popular metric present in your Google AdSense Reports Tab, it stands for Revenue Per mile which means how much you’ll be paid for 1000 pageviews.
Everyone is looking to make more money from Google AdSense since it’s one of the most popular ad networks out there, hence the reason publishers often ask: how do I increase my AdSense RPM?, how do I make more money from AdSense? Etc.
RPM is similar to the eCPM metric, if you’ve been around in the ad industry for some time now, you should know that eCPM stands for effective cost per mile, ad networks often interchange the terms.
Your AdSense Page Revenue per mile can be calculated using the simple formula, AdSense RPM = (AdSense earnings / number of pageviews) * 1000.
Let’s say that after getting 10,000 pageviews on your website in a month, you made $25 from AdSense, which means that your Page RPM is (25 / 10,000) * 1000 = $2.5.
From My 5+ years of experience with Google AdSense, I noticed that several factors affect your RPM rates, let’s take a look at them.
Common Factors that Impact AdSense RPM
- Bounce Rate.
- Traffic.
- Cost Per Click.
- Click Through Rate.
Bounce Rate
Even with other ad networks, Lower bounce rates are equal to higher revenue because the more time a visitor spends on a page, the more ads they’ll see and the higher probability that they’ll click on one.
Your site should load faster, Google AdSense revealed that a faster loading page will make you more ad revenue, and they suggest implementing AMP.
Instead of using AMP, you can focus on increasing the speed of your website’s theme, before you purchase any theme, do well to check the speed of the demo pages… I use the Verta WordPress Theme on my sites and am getting 99/100 in pagespeed insights.
For the best AdSense Earnings and a fast Website, The Verta WordPress Theme is top of the chart, it’s the one I use on most of my sites.
Traffic
When Advertisers create campaigns, they often target a specific Country or continent, that’s where they are willing to pay more for impressions or clicks.
Advertisers are known to pay more to get their ads In Front of a US Audience, that’s why pages that get traffic from the USA make more money than pages that don’t.
That is not to say that advertisers don’t bid for other countries, in my opinion, focus on getting your content in front of as many people as possible, more traffic is more revenue.
Cost-per-click
Am sure you must have heard of CPC before, I’ve even written an article on how to increase AdSense CPC, it contains next-gen strategies which I’ve used to game the system.
AdSense is a CPC-based website, their advertisers pay for clicks most of the time not impressions, so you earn the most revenue when your audience clicks on ads.
Traffic impacts CPC rates, I’ve personally seen a $25 CPC rate on my AdSense account for a certain page that was ranking number 1 in the United States for a certain number of Keywords.
Click Through Rate
CTR or Click Through Rate can be defined as the percentage of impressions that lead to a click on the AdSense Ads on your site.
The higher your Click Through Rate means that more people are clicking on your ads, and you should be making more ad revenue.
You should work on increasing your AdSense CTR if you wish to earn any real money from your site.
How to Increase AdSense RPM
Now that we’ve gone through the various factors that affect Page RPM on AdSense, let’s take a look at how to increase AdSense RPM easily.
Create Better Content
There’s no way around it, if you wish to increase AdSense RPM, you have to create better, high-quality, long-form, and engaging content.
Remember that I listed Traffic and Bounce Rate as key figures that impact your AdSense RPM, creating better content ticks the boxes for you.
Links
I’m not talking about Backlinks in this case scenario, internal linking is key to keeping your audience hooked up on your site, the more time a user spends on your site, the higher your RPM will be.

Use keywords to link to relevant articles or pages on your site which are Similar to the content you’re on, this will minimally help your page rank higher on Google and if your content attracts links from other sites, it’ll pass on the link juice which results in even more traffic.
Site Speed and Navigation
As I stated earlier in the article, a faster loading page will make you more revenue as people will engage with your content and see ads faster, possibly clicking on them.
In a YouTube Video, AdSense Team revealed that publishers who implement AMP pages and implement their ad formats just as in traditional pages are seeing more revenue and as such encourage you to do the same.

AdSense and Ezoic support AMP ads, so don’t worry about Monetization.
Your WordPress Theme plays a big role in your Site’s Speed, I encourage my readers to use the Verta WordPress Theme or JNews, two of them are very fast.
If you already have a theme that you’re happy with, consider using WP Rocket or one of these Cache Plugins to speed up your site.
Ad Sizes and Placements
Different Ad Sizes work better on Different Devices, you can’t place a 728×90 non-responsive ad on a mobile device and hope to even get a click, it’ll just ruin your theme.
AdSense has a feature that when toggled on, gives its AI the ability to determine the size of your visitors’ device and deliver the appropriate ad size, 728×90 on a computer, 468×60 on a Tablet, and 320×100 on mobile.

As much as ad sizes matter, your placements have the major impact, there are spots known to make the most ad revenue, spots as above the header, in-article, before and after comments, and Interstitials.
Use the Experiment option under the Optimization Tab on the left navigation menu of your AdSense account to test different ad sizes and layouts, you can enable an option to let the AI adjust to the sizes and placements that warb you more revenue.
Final Thoughts
While Google AdSense is a great ad network for Small Publishers, Ezoic remains the best and will always pay you more for your ad Impressions.
Ezoic utilizes ePMV instead of RPM or eCPM, the former stands for earnings per 1000 visitors, my sites are seeing, up to $55 CPM on Ezoic.
If you’re still using AdSense, switch to Ezoic today and enjoy better revenue and next-gen technology.
You can also import your Historical AdSense data to help the AI better understand your visitors’ needs and how they engage with your articles.
