There are many reasons while people may wish to change their YouTube Channel Email Address, maybe a brand change or maybe he/she decided to sell the account.
In any case, I’ll run you through the steps you’ll use to transfer the ownership of your YouTube Channel to another Email as fast as I can.
Getting Started
Before we get on to the tutorial, note that you can only change the email address tied to your YouTube Channel if and only if it is a brand channel.
Now, to check whether your channel is a brand channel;
- Make Sure you’re logged in to YouTube
- Click on your profile Icon at the top right corner of your screen
- Scroll down and click on YouTube Studio
- Click on settings at the bottom left corner of your screen
- On the Popup, click on Permission
If your Channel is a brand channel, then after you click on permission, your screen should look like the image below.
However, if you do not get an interface like in the image above, it means that your YouTube Channel is a personal channel.
You now have to convert your channel to a Brand Channel to continue. To do that, read this article on how to make the switch.
If you already have a brand channel, let’s continue with the business of the day.
Adding a New Gmail account
To proceed, click on the ‘manage permissions’ option below the ‘keep managing permissions in your YouTube Account’ heading.
On the next page, click again on ‘manage permissions’, YouTube will require confirmation that it’s you.
So you have to complete the verification process and then click on ‘manage permissions’ again.
Your current Gmail is the primary owner of the YouTube Channel, we are going to go on and add a new owner.
After you click on the plus button as seen in the image above, you should type in the Gmail account you wish to use.
Then select the role of owner. and click on ‘invite’ to send an invitation to the user.
The User of the Gmail which you added, should open their inbox and accept the invitation before we can proceed.
Once the new user has accepted the invitation, we move on to the next step.
Making the New user the primary owner
The new user has accepted the invitation, so if you click on ‘manage permissions’ again, you’ll see two users.
The owner (new user) and the primary owner (you).
Our goal is to make the new user the primary owner and delete the current primary owner of the YouTube Channel.
Make sure you’re logged into the current primary owner’s account.
You now have to click on the roles option on the ‘new user’ line and select ‘Primary Owner’.
After you click on Transfer, you’ll see a popup that says ‘primary user can only be transferred to a user who’s been a manager for more than 7 days’.
Once it’s 8 days since the new user was made an Owner of the Brand Channel.
Log In to your YouTube account (the account of the current primary owner) and repeat the process stated earlier in this article.
This time, when you click on ‘Transfer’ the account will be Transferred as fast as possible.
Click on Done and that’s pretty much it!
You’ve Successfully changed your YouTube Channel Email Address or basically transferred ownership of your brand channel.
