New YouTube Creators often target 1000 Subscribers and 4000 watch hours as it’s the threshold you need to reach to be considered for the YouTube Partner Program.
Starting on YouTube, I was torn between which of these metrics I should Target but when I edged one end I quickly discovered that you shouldn’t target 1000 Subscribers but 4000 watch hours.
Targeting 4000 Watch hours means that you’ll put more effort into creating content that people are going to engage with and watch for longer periods.

As of 2018, it took me 100,000 views on an 11-minute Video to get 6000 watch hours and apply for the YouTube Partner Program and it was then that I came to the realization that…
More Subscribers don’t mean more views on YouTube especially when you’re starting out. However, the more Subscribers you have, the more probability of eyeballs on your content when it goes live.
It’s kind of like having a Blog with 20,000 Email Subscribers, whenever you publish a new video, you send it to them and they view your content, you don’t have to wait for Search Traffic but if you’re starting out, your video can still rank #1 on YouTube and get the same amount of views as the creator with 20,000 Subscribers.
When I got accepted into the YouTube Partner Program, I already had 5000 Subscribers and I was of the mindset that more Subscribers would mean more views.
It didn’t take long to get to 7K subs and I’d still upload videos that’ll last for 3 months and still not move the needle.
Remember that an 11-minute video I uploaded when I was at 1,102 Subscribers got 100,000 views in the first 50 days after upload?
How do you get more YouTube Subscribers?
If you want to get more YouTube Subscribers, then you have to implement YouTube SEO, leverage YouTube Shorts, and promote your videos.

Can I get 4000 Watch Hours faster?
The minimum eligibility requirement for the YouTube Partner Program is 4000 watch hours from public videos and that doesn’t include watch time from YouTube Shorts and promoted videos on the platform.
