Can Shorts videos be Monetized on YouTube? Well Yes. In this article, we’ll go through how Creators make money from YouTube Shorts using ads and also how you can make money from shorts even if you don’t have ads.
We’ll also take a look at the new updates YouTube Plans for Shorts-focused creators in 2023 in terms of making more revenue.
How do you Make Money from YouTube Shorts Using Ads?
Your YouTube Shorts does make money from ads, so long as you have monetization enabled and you’re in the YouTube Partner Program.
The only problem is that they don’t make money if the traffic source is the Shorts Shelf, you could make ad revenue if your shorts are viewed from the Homepage feed, suggested videos, browse features, etc.
Now, since it’s not kinda easy to make money from YouTube Shorts because you can’t probably control the source of traffic, what happens is that if people engage with your YouTube Shorts, the Algorithm takes into consideration that they might love your long-form content.
Therefore, it starts recommending them on the users’ homepage as well as your other Shorts videos.
Now you can make money from the Long form content which YouTube Recommends to your viewers as they’ll have ads on them, provided you’re in the YouTube Partner Program.
How Can You Make Money With Shorts without a Monetized Channel?
Do remember that if you haven’t reached the 4000 watch hours eligibility threshold for the YouTube Partner Program, Shorts do not add to your Overall Watch Time for Monetization, even if you get a billion views.
Even though the views you get don’t count towards Monetization, the Subscribers you get do count, and you can use that to your advantage and increase your Subscriber count.
Some Creators claim that they can make money from YouTube Shorts using affiliate marketing, if your shorts get engagements that is a pretty great idea.
YouTube Creators who are not in the YouTube Partner Program can make money from YouTube Shorts using Affiliate Marketing and Brand Sponsorships.
If you have zero knowledge of Brand Sponsorships <– do read my article on it and you’ll get to understand everything about it.
Shorts get a lot of views and just like TikTok Videos and Instagram Reels, Brands are looking for influencers who will advertise their products or services in the next viral video.
Subscriber Count doesn’t impact the probability of your Shorts Videos going viral, so don’t worry if you have only 1000 or 2000 subs, the only thing that matters is that your shorts get engagements, let’s say an average of 100k Views.
New Update for Shorts-Focused Creators
As of 2023, Creators who focus on creating shorts can now apply for the YouTube Partner Program when their channel reaches 1000 Subscribers and 10M Shorts views in a 90-day period.
This means that you can focus on YouTube Shorts and kind of ignore creating long-form videos if you don’t want to and YouTube will still pay you.
Once you’ve reached the YPP Minimum Eligibility Threshold for Shorts, you can apply, get approved and get the same YPP Features like:
- Advertising Revenue
- Super Thanks
- SuperChat and Stickers
- Channel Memberships, etc.
Conclusion
With all these new features coming to YouTube Shorts, it’s important that you start a YouTube Channel today, if you don’t already have one, purchase beginner YouTube Equipment and start creating content as soon as possible.
