When evaluating and analyzing revenue from Ad Networks, many metrics come to mind, they include CPM, CPC, CTR, and Unique Ad Impressions.
Today, we’ll discuss everything you need to know about Unique Ad Impressions and if they are still important or not.
New to this website, here we talk about WordPress, YouTube, Blogging, Affiliate Marketing, and Ad Network Monetization.
Speaking of Ad Network Monetization, here are the 30 Best Ad Networks for all types of Publishers (Small or big). If you’re simply looking for the best, then you should choose Ezoic even if you launched your website yesterday.
What are Unique Ad Impressions?
Starting, an Ad Impression is counted when a Visitor on your site views an Ad, if there are 5 ads on the page, then it’ll be recorded as 5 Impressions and this is alos known as Gross Impression.
An Ad Impression is not quite the same as Unique Ad Impression, let me explain what I mean by that:
A Unique Ad Impression as the name implies refers to a Unique ad view, it’s counted when a visitor on your website sees an ad for the very first time in 24 hours.
Even if the ad appears 20 more times as the visitor consumes the page’s content, it still counts as 1 Unique Ad Impression.
The Unique Impression Metric has been an important factor that influences the earnings of publishers across various Ad Networks. Let’s just say Small Publishers didn’t earn a lot with it.
Not until when Ad Refresh Technologies rolled out, a visitor can now count for even 10 Unique Impressions, they just need to stay on the page longer for the ads to refresh.
You may notice it on this website, as you’re reading this content, some ads may disappear for a second and load another ad, perhaps counting for 2 unique ad impressions.
Why Unique Impression is an important metric
The Unique Impression metric is important because it influences your ePMV on Ezoic and eCPM on other ad networks that use the ad refresh technology.
Particularly, with Ezoic study shows that the longer you retain people on your Site’s content, the higher your ePMV, and the higher your ePMV, the more money you’ll make for 1000 visitors.
It’s important to know that you’ll be paid for every ad impression on your website both the Unique and refreshed ad impressions.
As I explained earlier in this article, a Unique Impression is counted when an ad is served for the first time in 24 hours. Ad Refresh tech now makes it possible for one visitor to account for more than 1 unique ad impression per slot.
As you should know, gross also means total, so gross impression accounts for the total number of impressions made by a visitor on your website.
Let’s say Victor visits your website 3 times on the same day, on the first visit, he saw 4 ads before he left, on the second visit, he saw 5 ads, on the third visist he saw 3 ads – the gross impression will be 4 + 5 + 3 = 12.
Unique Visitors are not the same as impressions, a unique visitor can view up to 15 ads which accounts for 15 Ad Impressions, when a visitor views an ad, it’s counted as an impression.
I hope that by now, you’ve understood the meaning and importance of Unique Impression in the Digital Space (Ad Networks), if you have any questions, am waiting in the comments.
